LET’S TALK STEWARDSHIP!
LET’S TALK STEWARDSHIP!

LET’S TALK STEWARDSHIP!

Stewardship is not so much about what we possess as it is about how faithfully we manage what God has entrusted to us.

The apostle Paul reminds us,

When we hear the word stewardship, our minds often turn immediately to money. And while managing our finances is certainly important, biblical stewardship reaches much further.

Our time, talents, relationships, opportunities, influence, and material possessions are all gifts entrusted to us by God. Even the ministries we serve and the responsibilities we carry are ultimately His.

The Psalmist reminds us,

That’s such an important truth to remember. God is the owner. We are only stewards. And as stewards, our responsibility is to faithfully manage what belongs to Him. Jesus said,

It’s interesting that Jesus connected faithfulness in small matters with our capacity to be trusted with greater responsibilities. I wonder how often we become so focused on what God might one day place in our hands that we overlook the importance of faithfully managing what He’s already given us.

We pray for greater opportunities, additional resources, and increased effectiveness. And while there’s certainly nothing wrong with those desires, perhaps we should also be asking ourselves:

  • Am I being faithful with what God has already entrusted to me?
  • Am I making wise use of my time?
  • Am I developing the abilities He’s given me?
  • Am I caring well for the people He’s placed in my life?
  • Am I managing my resources with wisdom, generosity, and integrity?

I want you to remember, faithfulness isn’t something reserved for the extraordinary moments of your life. Rather, it’s most often demonstrated throughout the ordinary decisions you make throughout your life.

A Quick Ministry Application

For those of us serving in ministry, this principle carries particular significance.

Churches and ministries operate through the faithful generosity of people who give sacrificially because they believe in the mission of the Gospel and the vision of the local church. These resources represent much more than financial transactions. They represent expressions of people’s hearts — their worship, obedience, generosity, and trust.

As ministry leaders, we have a responsibility to honor that trust.

When discussing the administration of a financial offering, Paul emphasized the importance of handling those resources honorably:

Paul understood that financial integrity mattered. And what was true in his day is still true in ours.

Good stewardship in ministry requires wise planning, responsible budgeting, accurate financial records, and appropriate accountability. These responsibilities may not always seem particularly spiritual, but they’re an important part of faithfully managing what God has entrusted to our care. And so, I think it’s important to recognize that good administration doesn’t compete with ministry. It actually supports it.

So, let me encourage you today to consider what’s already in your hands.

One day, what will matter most isn’t how much we’ve accumulated — but rather whether we’ve been faithful with it. So live each day with the goal of being a faithful steward!
