Freedom is a precious gift!
This week, as we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy in our nation, I’m reminded that the greatest freedom is not granted by a government, secured by human strength, or protected by earthly power.
The greatest freedom we shall ever know is found in Jesus Christ.
The apostle John records Jesus talking about his in John 8. As He put it,
“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36
That’s more than the kind of freedom we experience as Americans. It’s more than freedom around us. What Jesus was describing is a freedom within us! It’s something deep and lasting. It’s the kind of freedom that looses the bondages of the heart.
– It’s freedom from guilt.
– It’s freedom from sin’s final consequence.
– It’s freedom from shame and accusation.
– It’s freedom to stand before God completely forgiven, totally reconciled, and made new.
So, while we are deeply grateful for our nation, our deepest hope is not in this nation. Our hope is in a Person, and His name is Jesus!
As we prepare to celebrate and give thanks for the incredible blessings we enjoy as Americans, let’s also be sure to pause and give thanks for the greater freedom we have in Christ.
And if you find yourself struggling to live free, look to Jesus. If you’re carrying guilt, bring it to Him. If you’re trying to earn grace, rest in His finished work. And, if accusation keeps reminding you of your past, than take your stand in the righteousness that Christ has provided.
TODAY’S PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for the freedoms we enjoy, but even more, thank You for the freedom we have in Christ. Help us live as grateful citizens, faithful witnesses, and free sons and daughters of God. Amen.
If you’d like to read more, I’ve posted a new sermon this week called LIVING FREE. I encourage you to take a few minutes to check it out and be reminded that the greatest freedom you can ever know is found in Jesus.
Happy Independence Day!
