Other times, we can see them gathering like dark clouds on the horizon, inching closer as we brace for the inevitable winds of change.

Storms, in all their forms, are no strangers to any of us. Just read the headlines, and you will see it: storms of war, storms of division, storms of loss, and storms of nature that devastate communities and leave families reeling in grief.

This week, the news out of South-Central Texas has been deeply heartbreaking. Widespread flooding has claimed lives, including children, leaving many families and communities grieving. Others across the region continue to wait and pray for loved ones still unaccounted for.

These are the moments when words often fail, when the weight of tragedy feels too much to bear, and when the storms of life feel relentless. Yet, even here, this is not the end of the story.

The psalmist declares:

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

In every storm, God’s presence remains. We lift up all who are facing loss, uncertainty, and fear, asking that You would comfort and strengthen them in these difficult moments. Help us, too, in our own storms, to trust You, to lean on Your strength, and to find rest in Your refuge. Thank You for being our very present help in times of trouble. We place our hope in You today. While the exact historical background of this psalm is uncertain, some scholars note that certain phrases resemble the writings of Isaiah during the reign of King Hezekiah when God delivered Israel from an Assyrian siege (2 Kings 18–19). It is also noted that while the psalm is attributed “to” the Sons of Korah, it may have been intended to be sung by them in worship, rather than authored by them. Regardless of its origin, the psalm’s message is clear and timeless: God is with us and is our refuge when trouble comes. — BibleRef.com, Psalm 46 Commentary

Hope in the Storm A reflection of Psalm 46:1 Storms will come, and storms will go.
