I actually wrote it a few months ago after experiencing a deep loss. In October 2024, my mother, Mary Lou Hill—an amazing woman and a lover of God—passed away. Her absence has left a profound void in my life, yet I remain filled with hope, not despair. I know she is in heaven, in the presence of Jesus, and my faith reminds me that one day, I will see her again.

Even so, as I approached that first Christmas without her, I found myself reflecting on the tension between loss and hope, grief and joy. This piece, Empty Chairs, Full Hearts, was written in the midst of that season. It’s a reminder that while loss leaves its mark, the hope we have in Christ fills every empty space.

Empty Chairs, Full Hearts

Though chairs may sit empty, our hearts remain full. Emptiness, for us, is a fraud—a deception trying to hide the truth of hearts overflowing with hope and cherished memories.

Hope whispers softly in the midst of sorrow, bringing calm to chaos and replacing regret with sweet anticipation. It points us to our faith in Christ and reminds us of a table being prepared in the halls of glory. A place where chairs will be filled, victory will be found, reunions will be made, and eternity will be shared.

So our waiting, though real, is lightened by hope. The story of Christmas proclaims God’s love—a love that has shattered the cold and driven out the darkness. And even now, that same love wraps around us, breaking through the sadness left by loss.

The promise we have in Christ is more than just words—it is our unfailing source of strength. The assurance of His second coming stirs our hearts with a longing for that day when loneliness will vanish, and emptiness will be replaced with everlasting joy.

Until then, may we remember that the emptiness we feel this Christmas is but a fleeting illusion. Our steadfast faith in Christ sustains us—and fills our hearts with joy.

— Chuck Hill, Remembering Momma

December 24, 2024 Description: A reflective piece of creative writing that offers hope in the midst of grief—a Christmas reminder for those navigating the loss …

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

20
37,38,44,41,45,42,40,14,46,39,43
post-1185","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-daily-posts","tag-christmas","tag-despair","tag-emptiness","tag-eternity","tag-fullness","tag-gods-love","tag-heaven","tag-hope","tag-joy","tag-loss","tag-saddness
["GET
