{"id":1058,"date":"2024-07-01T18:59:07","date_gmt":"2024-07-01T18:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chuckhilltoday.com\/?page_id=1058"},"modified":"2025-12-15T20:44:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T20:44:09","slug":"honor-exalting-the-almighty","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/chuckhilltoday.com\/index.php\/honor-exalting-the-almighty\/","title":{"rendered":"HONOR &#8211; EXALTING THE ALMIGHTY!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HONOR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Momentum &#8211; Message #1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matthew 6:9-13<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-headings-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-04172e067ed3307b86199bfc2febf1a7 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>INTRODUCTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good morning! How\u2019s everyone doing today? It\u2019s so good to be with you this morning. I am convinced that GOD HAS GREAT THINGS in store for our you, your family, and for our CHURCH! And, so &#8212; I&#8217;m glad you&#8217;re here! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well, if you have your Bible, turn with me to the first book of the New Testament book of Matthew.\u00a0This morning we are beginning a <strong>BRAND NEW SERIES<\/strong> of messages we\u2019re calling <strong>MOMENTUM<\/strong>. In this series we\u2019ll spend the <strong>next 5 weeks<\/strong> walking through<em> one of the most significant<\/em> passages in all of the Bible. It\u2019s found in <strong>Matthew 6<\/strong> &#8212; in <strong>Jesus<\/strong>\u2019 famous <strong>SERMON ON THE MOUNT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here &#8212; in the midst of teaching His followers about <strong>how to live their lives for God\u2019s Glory,<\/strong> He took time to instruct them on how to pray. But more than just a framework for praying&#8230;He offered them (and us) <strong>key principles<\/strong> for aligning our hearts and lives with the heart of God. If we can learn to embrace these very important principles in our own lives &#8212; then we will quickly discover an increased <strong>MOMENTUM<\/strong> for building our faith and living for Jesus!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0Now, I have to admit, <strong>Momentum<\/strong> is a somewhat strange sounding word &#8212; but it has a fascinating definition. It has been defined as:\u00a0<strong><em>The tendency of something in motion to stay in motion&#8230;and move forward.<\/em><\/strong> And. as your <strong>pastor<\/strong>&#8230;I can tell you &#8212; it\u2019s my hope that you will experience a growing momentum in your own life &#8212; and that as you serve Christ&#8230;that you will move forward (beyond where you are today) in your own pursuit of Godliness!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MESSAGE:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With that in mind, look with me at <strong>Matthew 6 and verse 9<\/strong>. These words that we\u2019ll read today have often been referred to as \u201cTHE LORD\u2019S PRAYER\u201d. But I submit to you that today that its probably better to think of it as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cTHE BELIEVER\u2019S PRAYER!\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This morning &#8212; out of respect for God\u2019s Word&#8230;would you stand with me again and let\u2019s read (and pray this prayer) together. It\u2019s found in <strong>Matthew 6 and verse 9<\/strong>&#8230;but I\u2019d like for us all to use the same version &#8212; so you can read it along with me from the <em>PowerPoint<\/em> today. And Jesus said&#8230;<em> Pray then like this:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-195d99ef29c69e7e7b53757f6f6b28b6 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>9&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><em>&#8230;\u201cOur Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,&nbsp;and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Matthew 6:9-13 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AMEN!<\/strong> <strong>You may be seated.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we begin this series, I want you to recognize the content of this prayer with me.\u00a0Hidden within the lines of this POWERFUL PRAYER are <strong>five distinct principles for life<\/strong> &#8212; principles that we\u2019ve boiled down to five memorable words.\u00a0And, when applied to our everyday lives, they really serve as catalysts for change to help move us toward an abundant life as Jesus promised in <strong>John 10:10 <\/strong>(when He said, <em>\u201cI have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.\u201d<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was not <strong>Jesus<\/strong>\u2019 plan to come and give us just enough of His <strong>power<\/strong> and His <strong>provision<\/strong> and His <strong>presence<\/strong> to get by and <strong>squeak<\/strong> <strong>out<\/strong> some <strong>meager<\/strong> <strong>existence<\/strong> in life. But rather, He came to GIVE US LIFE TO THE FULL!\u00a0(John 10:10)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Life to the max!&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what does a life that is <strong>lived to the fullest<\/strong> look like? What does a life that is empowered by God\u2019s Spirit and resourced by God\u2019s generosity really look like. Well, that\u2019s the big question that we will seek to answer over the next 5 weeks.\u00a0According to this prayer we just prayed &#8212; as Jesus declared &#8212; it begins with&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. HONOR <\/strong>(living our lives in Honor of God &#8212; and we\u2019ll be looking at this more this morning.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ada89b7cf3cf4c012db52e4a4af654b1 wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u2018Our Father&nbsp;in heaven,&nbsp;hallowed be your name&#8230;&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<strong>Matt. 6:9 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But then it moves on to&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Renewal <\/strong>(Allowing God to Change us From the Inside Out&#8230;putting away selfishness &#8212; and embracing God\u2019s ways over our own).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5384ea7c9c6681d7c0adb19b885c76bd wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cYour Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<strong>Matt. 6:10 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then it moves on to &#8212; what we\u2019re calling&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. Release <\/strong>(This has to do with the issue of trust &#8212; trusting God to be our provider.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-038868b2cf3bf259e0abfada1c2f73f7 wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cGive us today our daily bread.&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<strong>Matt. 6:11 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And from here, Jesus leads us to the principle of&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. Forgiveness <\/strong>(Accepting God\u2019s Grace and forgiveness in our own lives and then extending it to others.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ba400fcaf216f5d97eb074dd806558e6 wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAnd forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<strong>Matt. 6:12 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And finally, he teaches us the principle of&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5. Pursuit<\/strong> (Which is aligning ourselves with God\u2019s Plan &#8212; and rejecting the evil temptations of this world.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5058568f4f5a6366c2aed2295ab6aded wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAnd lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<strong>Matt. 6:13 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The only way to truly flee temptation and to turn away from the evil one &#8212; is to PURSUE Godliness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And<strong> if we can build our lives on these principles <\/strong>that Jesus teaches us &#8212; in this prayer, then I guarantee you that your life will change for the better. And you will experience a growing momentum in your own life &#8212; and that as you serve Christ&#8230;that you will move forward (beyond where you are today) in your own pursuit of Godliness!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless of whether you view yourself as YOUNG or OLD or somewhere in between&#8230;God wants to take you further in your spiritual journey with Him. (Can you say AMEN!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-headings-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-58028d0f074063629500dd5f70c08119 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>TRANSITION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well, with that &#8212; look with me again at <strong>verse 9<\/strong>. The starting place for growing in God always begins with<strong> HONOR!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Say that with me: <strong>HONOR<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Honor<\/strong> is somewhat a forgotten principle within our world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I was growing up&#8230;children were taught to honor their parents. Adolescents were taught to honor adults&#8230;we were taught to honor our leaders and those in authority&#8230;we were taught to honor our service men and women&#8230;and everyone honored the elderly. But those days seem to have past &#8212; and been replaced by SELF-CENTEREDNESS&#8230;and ARROGANCE!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But as <strong>Jesus<\/strong> was teaching His disciples about living a GODWARD life&#8230;He said, when you pray&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ca8ee8e8ecb75db9352435c4331675d5 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>9&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><em>Pray then like this: \u201cOur Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Hallowed Be Your Name<\/em><\/strong> &#8212; It\u2019s a powerful and challenging prayer. It\u2019s a prayer that says, when it comes to your name, O God&#8230;<em>\u201cMake it holy and cause us to keep it holy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meaning of <em>\u201challowed be your name\u201d<\/em> rests on two words\u2014\u201c<strong>hallowed<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>name<\/strong>.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let me take just a moment and explain the importance of these two words to you. And I think I\u2019ll begin with the latter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today <strong>names<\/strong> don\u2019t mean much more to us than <strong>convenient<\/strong> <strong>labels<\/strong> to <strong>identify<\/strong> <strong>people<\/strong> by. We commonly say, \u201cA rose is a rose by any other name\u201d or \u201ca thorn is a thorn by any other name.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e3001888bc6b518cf524d324403848f0 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#4c0a77\">We rarely even think about what a name means when we name our children. Our biggest concern is that the name sound good to the ear &#8212; or roll off the tongue well. Or maybe our highest priority is that the name point back to another relative or loved one.\u00a0I know I\u2019ve told this story more times than I should&#8230;but when Lori and I were blessed by our first son&#8230;we really struggled to name him.\u00a0 In fact, for three days he laid in the infant crib next to our bed identified simply as \u201cBABY BOY HILL\u201d. (True Story)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f195e49e023a23b44cb1331eae5173a6 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#4c0a77\">And the reason for that is because we understood that this whole naming thing was a very big deal. He would be stuck with whatever name we chose &#8212; for LIFE. We ultimately settled on Jonathan (Precious gift from God). And even so&#8230;our understanding of NAMES today pales in comparison to the perspective of Israel in ancient days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the Jewish person, a name was anything but a convenient label &#8212; because names were considered an indicator of character. This especially applied to the name of God.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the way &#8212; do know where we get our <em>English<\/em> word for <strong>GOD from<\/strong>?\u00a0 It is derived from the <strong>Anglo<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>Saxon<\/strong> word for <strong>good<\/strong>. It too points to <strong>God\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>nature<\/strong>. For He is <strong>GOD<\/strong> &#8212; the <strong>Good<\/strong> <strong>One<\/strong>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the essence of goodness, the cause of goodness in others and throughout our world<\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-1-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-61707bb9f55ad55cc24b72c1726a35bc wp-block-paragraph\">Somebody once explained <strong>God<\/strong> this way: <em>\u201cAll conceptions of God which are incompatible with a movement of pure charity are false. All other conceptions of Him, in varying degrees, are true.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did you know that the name of the <strong>LORD<\/strong> is a major recurring theme in scripture. There are <strong>more than 90 <\/strong>references to it in the <strong>Psalms<\/strong> alone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To this point, the psalmist declared in<strong> Psalm 20:7<\/strong>,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a9ec3881fb84d16c362e64f92382725c wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cSome trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name [the character] of the Lord our God\u201d<\/em> (20:7).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You see, God\u2019s names reveal certain aspects of his being. In the <strong>Old<\/strong> <strong>Testament<\/strong> we often find God (or others) referring to God by His character. For instance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the book of <strong>Judges<\/strong> we discover God as &#8212; <strong>Jehovah Shalom<\/strong>\u2014<em>\u201cThe Lord Our Peace\u201d<\/em>. This was a name that the Judge and mighty warrior <strong>Gideon<\/strong> recognized and honored when he constructed an altar for worship &#8212; so he could remember God by the PEACE that He gave.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>And in <strong>Genesis<\/strong>, we discover God as &#8212; <strong>Jehovah Jireh<\/strong>\u2014<em>\u201cthe Lord will provide\u201d.<\/em> This name of <strong>God<\/strong> was noted when <strong>Abraham<\/strong> experienced God\u2019s goodness through his provision of a ram on Mt. Moriah as he was preparing to sacrifice his son <strong>Isaac<\/strong> to the Lord.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Or in <strong>Jeremiah<\/strong>, when the prophet identified God as &#8212; <strong>Jehovah Tsidkenu<\/strong>\u2014<em>\u201cthe Lord our Righteousness\u201d.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Listen, the list of <strong>God\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>names<\/strong> in the <strong>Old<\/strong> <strong>Testament<\/strong> is quite long, including <strong>Jehovah<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>nissi<\/strong>, <strong>El Shaddai<\/strong>, <strong>Adonai<\/strong>, and others&#8230;but the thing I want you to remember today &#8212; is not all these names, but the fact that these names reference God\u2019s divine GOOD character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As I mentioned a few moments ago, the meaning of the phrase<em> \u201challowed be your name\u201d<\/em> rests on<strong> two words<\/strong>\u2014\u201c<strong>hallowed<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>name<\/strong>.\u201d We\u2019ve talked about his NAME&#8230;now let\u2019s talk about the other word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>So, what does it mean to <\/strong><strong><em>hallow<\/em><\/strong><strong> God\u2019s name?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well &#8212; <strong>HALLOW<\/strong> really means<em> \u201cto set apart as holy,\u201d<\/em> <em>\u201cto consider holy,\u201d \u201cto treat as holy.\u201d <\/em>The best alternative term in our day and age would be the word &#8212; <strong>HONOR<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The great reformer <strong>Martin Luther<\/strong> once asked: <strong><em>\u201cHow do we truly honor God\u2019s name?\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>And his answer: <strong><em>\u201cWhen our life and doctrine are truly Christian.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His point was that &#8212; we HONOR GOD best when we UNDERSTAND WHO HE IS&#8230;and LIVE OUR LIVES IN SUBMISSION TO HIM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We cannot truly pray \u201cHallowed be your name\u201d without really dedicating and submitting ourselves to him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before making His way to the cross &#8212; where He would lay down His life for you and me&#8230;<strong>Jesus<\/strong> demonstrated what this thing of SUBMISSION and surrender really looks like as he would pray in <strong>John 12:28<\/strong>, <em>\u201cFather, glorify your name!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Again, Jesus knew that for God\u2019s name to be HONORED &#8212; or GLORIFIED in His own life&#8230;it would mean that He would ULTIMATELY SURRENDER everything through death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what does ULTIMATE SURRENDER and the HONOR OF GOD\u2019S GOOD NAME look like in our lives? How do we, as God\u2019s children, <strong>hallow<\/strong> his name in our own lives?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Well, there are at least four ways that I want to mention this morning<\/em>. First of all:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-headings-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-8e91c1f850e68be2aa9e9074d78c3a8a wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. WE HONOR HIS NAME WITH OUR WORDS.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By this, I am suggesting that we must be extremely careful <\/strong><strong>not to profane<\/strong><strong> His name with our mouths.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We do this by avoiding swearing or taking his name in vain.&nbsp; <strong>If we\u2019re going to speak His name &#8212; let\u2019s only do so with with great reverence.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise &#8212; because it\u2019s one of the BIG 10 isn\u2019t it? Do you remember the LAWS FOR LIFE that God gave to His people when Moses was leading them through the wilderness?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said, in <strong>Exodus 20<\/strong>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have no other God\u2019s before me.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not take the name of the Lord in vain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep the Sabbath Day Holy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Honor your Father and Mother.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not kill.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not commit adultery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not steal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not lie.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not covet your neighbor\u2019s wife.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not covet your neighbor&#8217;s possessions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And again here &#8212; as Jesus is teaching us how to pray &#8212; and how to live&#8230;He says, <strong>Keep God\u2019s name Holy<\/strong>. Honor it! When it rolls off your tongue &#8212; it should be in reverence to Him!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is perhaps the least difficult &#8212; but most easily broken commandment today. If we really want to Honor God\u2019 name&#8230;then we will save it for Him alone! And never use it <strong>flippantly<\/strong>&#8230;or carelessly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, we honor his name with our words. Secondly,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-headings-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-ae5ba1b6ef7c8bbc01bbd0e91566e4e7 wp-block-paragraph\"><b>2. <\/b><strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\">WE HONOR HIS NAME WIT<\/strong><strong>H OUR WORSHIP.<\/strong><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this can be done when you\u2019re all alone &#8212; or with others. As a pastor, one of my greatest joys is watching you worship God together. Hearing you sing, seeing you lift your hands in adoration to God greatness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did you know we are commanded in scripture to give God our worship. Again and again God calls us to celebrate His presence and His goodness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it doesn\u2019t take a band and singers to allow you to worship. You can do it at home, in your car, with your family, and with other believers. The point is &#8212; just do it! <strong>Don\u2019t allow others to worship for you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t sit back and watch others enter in to God\u2019s presence &#8212; challenge yourself to be more exuberant and expressive. Sing with others. Sing your own songs. Offer words and thoughts of praise to God freely and frequently!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I might ask you, \u201cIs God\u2019s name truly being lifted up by you?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We hallow his name when we worship Him. Are you a worshipper? If not &#8212; begin today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, we honor God&#8217;s name with our words. Secondly, with our worship. And thirdly,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-headings-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-0e8f5172510e4f1cca346e731a467b76 wp-block-paragraph\"><b>3. <\/b><strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\">WE HONOR HIS NAME WITH<\/strong><strong> OUR THOUGHTS!<\/strong><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-dd20815ee44d606e1d4b1e7d44e2abf5 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Paul<\/strong> said, <em>\u201cFinally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable\u2014if anything is excellent or praiseworthy\u2014think about such things.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Philippians 4:8 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you know why? Because &#8212; <strong>all good things come from God<\/strong>. And if we think on these things&#8230;they inevitably direct our thoughts back to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, what about you? Are your thoughts God-honoring?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Do the things you dwell on lifting up God\u2019s name<\/strong> &#8212; or do the things you think on&#8230;tear Him down?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Do the things you think &#8212; and believe about Him<\/strong> &#8212; <strong>magnify<\/strong> Him or <strong>diminish<\/strong> Him in your sight.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I often like to picture a <strong>BIG MAGNIFYING GLASS<\/strong> when I think about God. Because all it does is take whatever I put it in BIGGER.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are your thoughts about God increasing your belief in HIS GREAT POWER &#8212; or do you dwell on doubts and questions that seek to undermine God\u2019s GREATNESS?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We cannot honor his name if we do not understand who He is.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deeper our understanding, the more depth there will be to our reverence. It is all the work of the Holy Spirit, of course, but we must yield to that work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to grow in this area of your life &#8212; then I would challenge you to study God\u2019s Word more carefully, and pray more diligently that God would give you understanding!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, if we want to honor God&#8217;s name &#8212; we do so by being intentional and considerate with our words, our worship, our thoughts, and fourthly,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. <strong>WE HONOR HIS NAME WITH<\/strong> OUR ACTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We do this by <strong>living a life that reflects His Character.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For us to <em>honor<\/em> God\u2019s name means that <strong>we must give Him the supreme place within us<\/strong>. It means that we place Him above all else and live accordingly. <strong>If we truly believe that God is good,<\/strong> then the way we honor Him is to live in devotion to Him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things we do, the way we treat others, the way we handle our resources, the way we manage our business and work, the way we speak to those around us&#8230;and the way we love others will declare our DEVOTION TO GOD!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The psalmist prayed in <strong>Psalm 19:14<\/strong>,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-05e2fc00c9d0f2baf2f34ef6f2de0661 wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cMay the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart&nbsp;be pleasing in your sight,&nbsp;O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Psalm 19:14 (NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts must be acceptable to God &#8212; the One who is the standard of all goodness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we surrender our will to Him&#8230;then we will live accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cHallowed be Your name.\u201d<\/em> You are the Creator and Sustainer of life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong> says, if you\u2019re going to live your life the way God intended for you to live it&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re going to <strong>grow<\/strong> in your <strong>faith<\/strong> and <strong>excel<\/strong> in your <strong>spiritual<\/strong> <strong>journey<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re going to <strong>maintain<\/strong> the <strong>MOMENTUM<\/strong> that you experienced when you first believed&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then &#8212; it begins with <strong>HONORING<\/strong> <strong>GOD<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-headings-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-743afc1012917096508a5eb22242005f wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Let\u2019s Pray!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-1-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d2ceac476fec038883dfb45337b1fb1e wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Heavenly Father,<em> thank you for your Word which instills within us the wisdom and direction we need to live well! Teach us to guard our lips and use our words in intentional ways to lift you up and bless you above all things. Help us to become even more expressive with our worship \u2014 learning to point to you, lifting our hands in praise, dancing in joy, and walking in faith as we honor You. And even more than these actions, may we be committed to using our minds to dwell upon you and your Word often and always. Help us to recognize that as we think \u2014 so will go our lives. So empower us to honor you with every thought. And then, as an overflow of our thoughts \u2014 help us to live pleasing lives of faith before you. And throughout it all, may your be blessed, exalted, and honored. In your mighty name we pray\u2026amen!<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And now, just one more thing:<\/strong> If you\u2019re here this morning, and you\u2019ve listened to everything we\u2019ve said toady \u2014 from the worship and testimonies to the message, and through it all, you sense <strong>God<\/strong> <strong>stirring your heart<\/strong> <strong>to trust in Him<\/strong>. To seek Him. To know Him, would you respond by lifting your hand today\u2014 to let me know that your want to know <strong>Jesus<\/strong>. (Saying, \u201cI want to be saved today?\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If that\u2019s you, would you be brave enough to <strong>slip your hand up and acknowledge that today<\/strong>? As you do, a ministry team member is going to bring you a card (so that you have a <strong>tangible<\/strong> <strong>way to respond<\/strong>), to <strong>God\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>prompting<\/strong> in your life today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Yes, we are so proud of you! <\/strong>In light of your desire to surrender your life to <strong>Jesus<\/strong>, would you pray with me? Maybe you\u2019d say something like this:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-1-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d90322cf7832bdde669ec0e5a8d8428c wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Heavenly <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Father<\/em><\/strong><em>, I admit that I am a sinner and I\u2019ve chosen my way over yours too often. But all that changes today. Because, I believe in Your Son, Jesus. I believe that He came from Heaven to earth to pay for my sin. I believe He died on the cross, shed His blood, was put in a grave \u2014 and rose again. So, today \u2014 I put my faith in Jesus. <\/em><strong><em>Forgive me of my sin<\/em><\/strong><em>. Save me and give me new life in you forever.
