Closing Charge & Commissioning of Leaders
Introduction
We’ve covered a lot today. I know your mind may be full and your heart stretched. My intention was never to overwhelm you — but to encourage you, equip you, and challenge you to live out the calling God has placed on your life.
At the core of today has been one goal: to raise the bar on your leadership — not in title or status, but in how you serve, influence, and shepherd the people God has entrusted to your care.
1 Peter 5:2–3 –“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.”
Closing Words
We’ve talked about leading ourselves first, leading with vision, leading with people in mind, leading with courage, and leading for legacy. But don’t forget — leadership isn’t theory. It’s a calling.
Peter reminds us that God has entrusted us with His flock. They don’t belong to us. They’re not “our ministry.” They are His people. And what a holy responsibility that is.
True leadership isn’t measured in programs or projects. It’s measured in faithfulness to shepherd people. Every unseen act — rocking a baby in the nursery, welcoming a student who feels out of place, running sound so the gospel can be heard, making wise financial decisions, or offering hospitality at the door — all of it is shepherding God’s flock.
POWERPOINT: “Ministry leadership is not about making our name known. It’s about making Jesus’ name known.”
The Charge
So here’s my charge to you:
- Lead Yourself — Guard your heart. Stay rooted in Jesus.
- Lead with Vision — Keep the mission in front of you. Help others see their part in it.
- Lead with People in Mind — Programs matter, but people matter most. Always choose people.
- Lead with Courage — Challenges will come, but God is with you. Step forward in faith.
- Lead for Legacy — Multiply leaders, raise up others, and invest in tomorrow.
Leaders, your ministry matters. Your influence matters. And your faithfulness matters. My prayer is that long after this Summit ends, God will keep writing His story through your life and leadership.
Commissioning Moment
Now, I want us to move from words to a holy moment of commissioning.
Would you stand with me? Lift your hands in an open posture before the Lord. This is more than symbolism — it’s an act of receiving from Him what you need to carry out your calling. As you lift your hands, ask Him to pour fresh strength, wisdom, and courage into you.
Prayer of Commissioning
Heavenly Father, thank You for these leaders who stand before You. You have called them, gifted them, and entrusted them with people You love deeply. Strengthen their hearts. Guard them from discouragement. Fill them with wisdom for decisions, courage for challenges, and compassion for people. May they lead with humility, serve with joy, and shepherd with faithfulness. Today, we commission them — in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — to lead well, to multiply leaders, and to bring glory to Jesus in every act of service. Send them from this place with renewed strength and fresh vision. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
