The Lasting Impact of Investing In Others

Last night, I had the profound privilege of joining a gathering of pastors and leaders to honor my dear friend and fellow pastor, Phil Simun. It was a special evening, celebrating his many faithful years of dedicated leadership within our fellowship. As the night unfolded, words of affirmation flowed abundantly, each one highlighting the extraordinary ways Pastor Phil has invested deeply in others.

One particular testimony resonated deeply with me. A fellow pastor shared how Pastor Phil had consistently poured into his life—not just offering occasional advice, but truly mentoring, encouraging, and modeling the principle of making deposits into the lives of those around him. In fact, he quoted Pastor Phil directly, saying, “As leaders, we are constantly making deposits and withdrawals.”

Hearing these words reminded me vividly that true pastoral leadership is built on thoughtful, intentional investments in people. It brought to mind the words of Scripture from Proverbs 11:25:

This verse captures Pastor Phil’s life and leadership beautifully. He exemplifies what it means to refresh others through encouragement, kindness, and genuine care. His leadership legacy isn’t simply measured by organizational success, but by the lives he’s enriched and inspired.

The evening served as a powerful reminder for all of us gathered: every interaction matters. Every conversation, word of encouragement, and gesture of care is a deposit that enriches someone’s life and ministry. Pastor Phil’s example challenges each of us to intentionally prioritize these deposits, knowing they bear lasting spiritual fruit.

As we celebrated Pastor Phil’s faithful ministry, my prayer became clear:
