Description: A reflective piece of creative writing that offers hope in the midst of grief—a Christmas reminder for those navigating the loss of a loved one, that even in sorrow, the light of Christ still shines.

Introduction:

It’s taken me some time to be ready and able to post this. I actually wrote it a few months ago after experiencing a deep loss. In October 2024, my mother, Mary Lou Hill—an amazing woman and a lover of God—passed away. Her absence has left a profound void in my life, yet I remain filled with hope, not despair. I know she is in heaven, in the presence of Jesus, and my faith reminds me that one day, I will see her again.

Even so, as I approached that first Christmas without her, I found myself reflecting on the tension between loss and hope, grief and joy. This piece, Empty Chairs, Full Hearts, was written in the midst of that season. It’s a reminder that while loss leaves its mark, the hope we have in Christ fills every empty space.
